         MAXIMIZE YOUR PENSION

When most of us retire we will have less income than our working years, so we want to make the most we can from the income we receive.  Many of us will receive a pension.  When we retire we have to make some difficult decisions.  We want to get the most we can from our pension but we want our spouse to have sufficient income after we die.  We have to make a choice when we apply for our pension.
1. We can take the full pension.  However, it will end when we die and provide nothing for our spouse.  That is why the spouse, by law, has to provide written consent to take this option.
2. We can choose an option to provide a portion of our pension to our spouse after we die.  However, to do this we must take a reduction in our pension which gives us less to live on for as long as we live.  I guess we can't have it both ways, or can we?

The Knights of Columbus have a plan called PENSION MAXIMIZATION which can give you the best of both worlds.  You can take your full pension and use part of it to buy life insurance.  Some of the benefits of the plan are as follows:
1.  If both of you have a long life together, the dividends will reach a point where it is sufficient to pay the premiums.  At that point you can stop paying the premiums and use that additional money to live on.  It is like getting a pay raise.  The reduction in the pension to provide income for your spouse will always be there.
2.  If your spouse dies before you and you no longer need the insurance, you can cash it in and you are still receiving your full pension rather than continuing with a reduced pension even when you do not have a spouse to receive a portion of your pension when you die.
3.  If your spouse dies before you,  your children cannot receive that portion of the pension that you intended for your spouse.  However, if you choose to keep the insurance after the spouse's death you can create or increase your estate by making the children or whoever you choose to be the beneficiary.
4.  The program can provide the same monthly income your spouse would have received from your pension upon your death.  However, the portion of your pension your spouse receives is 100% taxable. The portion of the monthly payment received as a death benefit is tax free, resulting in a larger net income.
5. If you start your program before you reach retirement age, especially age 50 or earlier, you could possibly be at a point earlier or at the beginning of retirement where the dividends could be paying the premium, depending on the time you start and when you retire, allowing more income for living expenses.

In addition, the earlier you start, the lower your life insurance premium will be and with a whole life policy the death benefit can increase each year which would require less insurance to start.  The key is to start as early as possible and let your money work for you. I will be happy to review your pension and put a plan together that suits your needs.  Your future starts tomorrow.  Contact me today.
